Hmmm, this can't be good, we're all procrastinators for one reason or another. Nina, when it's time for shore tours you better have everyone assemble at least 45 minutes before departure time! Laughing

Serious, we'll be booking soon too. I just didn't realize how popular both 4th of July and Christmas are on Cunard. When we book on other lines, we could book 6 months out and still get very decent cabins. So we'll kick it up a notch and book earlier than usual.

Glad to hear you are still coming along Alex Smile I hear ya about the early assembly times. Somewhere I read a funny comment about different countries and their proper arrival times. It went something like this:

If the time of departure is announced as being 10:00am on Wednesday the...

Germans will arrive at 9:59

Americans will arrive at 10:10

English will arrive between 10:15 & 10:45 as long as they are not enjoying tea

French will be there on Saturday

Italians will be there next Wednesday

So, I will word the announcements accordingly lol!

lol! Too funny Nina!

Did anyone book QM2 for the 4th for this year? Was hoping for a live report but, no such luck yet.

I'm considering this sailing, I have to be honest, I'm going to try to win one of the Cunard cruises during the contest first but, if I have to pay for one, I will book the July 1st sailing.

Don't mind me, I'm lurking - I'm going on Princess for the 4th in 2010 and, this is very tempting, ESPECIALLY since you are offering a pre-cruise package in NYC. I'm not sure I will make the Saturday chat but, I will try to get on for the Monday 28th chat - I've never sailed Cunard and have lots of questions!

I have a problem, I can't commit just yet. We're waiting for a family member to make a decision about setting a wedding date. What are my chances of getting a cabin - I'm not fussy - if I book in January/February 2009?

Based on this past year Jan/Feb there should still be some insides and a few balcony cabins. As long as you have no problem with where you are on the ship there is a good chance you will still be able to get on.

I have a similar situation, I'd like to book 4th of July but, won't know if the dates work for us until November/December of this year. Glad to hear cabin space should still be available!

PostSubject: Re: 4th of July - 2009   Sat Aug 16, 2008 10:13 am

Hi,

I'm BB. I'm a teacher from PA (Philly area) and, I need some help and/or opinions making a decision. I realize this is comparing apples and oranges so that's why I'm turning those who have sailed on QM2 and Royal Caribbean to make comparisons for me.

Here are my thoughts. I always try to cruise during 4th of July week and, I"m not fond of flying so that limits my port choices. I'm not thrilled with Baltimore so that eliminates that one and Philly only has NCL - not my cup of tea. That leaves me with NJ OR NYC for my ports.

If I cruise from NY (Manhattan) the choices are Carnival to New England and Canada which I've done 5 times now - and while I love Halifax, there is only so many times you can visit St. John and also I like the Destiny class of ship but, Carnival Triumph isn't my favorite. Therefore that choice is eliminated. The other choice out of NY (Manhattan) is also on Carnival for an 8 night is aboard Carnival Miracle - love the Spirit class ships in the Carnival fleet but, the itinerary isn't great at all. Out 8 nights there are only 3 ports of call, two of which are in the Bahamas which I must have visited over a dozen times already and the other port of call is Turks/Caicos this is a port I haven't been at yet but, the other factors are outweighing that one positive so that choice is out.

This leaves me with the choice of Explorer of the Seas to Bermuda which leaves on July 4, 2009 and Queen Mary 2 which leaves on July 1, 2009.

I love Bermuda, regardless of how many times I visit, I never tire of it. And, Explorer of the Seas is an excellent ship. It's 5 nights and it will run me around $3200 for a balcony cabin.

On the other hand, I have never sailed on QM2 or any Cunard ship and, I think it might be a fun experience, especially being in Boston for the fireworks. That's a strong selling point. The kicker is that I can get a balcony cabin, with the new pricing that was announced, for less than I'd pay on Royal Caribbean, an in-hull cabin would only run around $2900.

I'm just not sure who or what to expect on Cunard. I will be traveling with my best friend, also another teacher. We are both single. We're not party animals but, I'm afraid we might be bored on QM2.

So to those who have sailed on both, give me a reason to make the switch to QM2 and try Cunard. Remember, I'm a teacher and this is one of my hard earned vacations for the year and I don't want to be disappointed.

Any and all advice and recommendations are more than welcome! And, thank you in advance to those who answer Very Happy

I should add this is based on information and pricing directly from the Royal Caribbean site and Nina's latest pricing for QM2. By the way, I'm going to blog about this today to give this sailing a plug. And what better promotion than being able to sail less on QM2 than EOS?!

And yes pricing includes port charges, taxes and fuel charges.
