Looks like I shopped right for a change. One of my formals is black and white and the other one has blue on a white background. Hmm wonder if I can talk Don into buying me some rubies.

Sorry you wont be there Pat.
I wonder if a white tuxedo and a red bow tie might be overdoing it ?

Here is the official Ball Schedule from Cunard:

1st: Elegant Casual
2nd: Captain's Ball (Black & White)
3rd: Semi Formal
4th: Independance Ball (Red, White and/or Blue will be the theme)
5th: Elegant Casual

At the risk of sounding dumb (not that I have a problem with sounding dumb!)...
Is this list the same as what you should wear for dinner and the entire evening - even if you don't plan on attending the dancing?
2nd & 4th are both Formal...correct?

All my formals are black! I should have seen this coming. I was just going to wear pearls with one of them for the black and white, but some how I just don't think I am the red dress type! But I do have saphires I could wear. Sigh............LOL!

Good luck with the rubies Barb!

why not diamonds for the white? don't they usually ask you to keep the theme of the night even after dinner, etc.? i know they usually ask that if it's formal night you not run upstairs after dinner and jump in your shorts.

I found a store that sells all gowns in all sizes. You can order them also, it takes about 12 weeks. Prices range from $125.00 to $900 from what I have seen. You pay 50% down and the balance when it arrives.

They have beautiful gowns, its called RK Bridal on 39th & 7th Avenue, Manhattan. I have eyed some gowns for the european and EOS cruise.

.... and we are getting close to that 12 week marker before our cruise!!! Good thing we will be there in person too. Im sure they are gorgeous. I hope the gowns I bought are equally gorgeous by NYC standards.

I think we will stick with the 4 new formals I already got. My sister picked out one I said was navy blue ..... except it turned out not to be, I didnt look at the printed color close enough, just the picture. It has reddish over tones to the dark blue, almost a purple hue, which will have to do for the blue in red, white and blue. That means I gotta get myself into the dark beige one with white lace kinda made into flowers (and lots of pearls and sparking gold) as the white entry to red, white and blue. I think with all those white inch across flowers across the top part, that will be enough white the dress will be ok for the theme, not perfect, but close enough.

Usually we pack light, this time we are probably going to each have to check a suitcase. Is it still $15 to check a suitcase on most flights?? JustKidding We will have about twice as much as usual on a cruise to bring. All those beaded and layered fancy gowns are surprisingly HEAVY.

Where is the soda and water smuggling threads. Can I smuggle my booze onto the ship. (sorry I couldnt resist being a smart aleck). Ban

jane - i just booked a flight for my friends to florida and they paid $25 for the first bag and $50 for every bag over that. in fact, that airline actually charged them an extra $24 per person to reserve the seat if they wanted a particular seat so since they both wanted an aisle they had to pay an total of an extra $48. maybe you can put the formals into a carry on or garment bag so you won't pay for that. you can get your soda and water here in ny and you don't have to smuggle - just walk right on with it.

Just for info, if you book AirTran tickets at their web fare price, and they won't assign seats, see if your travel agent has an AirTran account. If they do, they can get your seat assignment for you without having to pay the higher fare. The agent may charge you a fee for doing so, but I'll bet it would be less than the higher class AirTran fare. It's one of the few perks left for TAs when dealing with airlines.

We have all I can handle as a carry on more than likely. I carry a lot of meds for my sister and the camera stuff like that.

I was kidding about the smuggling threads, that's why I put j/k next to it. Isn't j/k joking? I have yet to smuggle any booze onto a ship. .... so how much is a bucket of beer on ice again??

the vaction stop .... Air Trans doesnt fly out of Dallas, so that's out. Iv heard they have fabulous prices. SW is cheap from any where except out of Love Field in Dallas. They used to charge double to cross state lines, but thank goodness, that is being phased out over the next 8 years, so prices over state lines are less. Dallas isnt cheap to fly out of compared to most places.

I found a really nice formal on sale, for the black and white night, and actually have two formals that will work, but still not sure what to wear for the red, white and blue night.

Just wondering how many people dress with the theme of the night? Can I wear black both nights?
