The best french fries I ever had were in Belguim with mayonaise. My mouth is watering thinking about them.

You would have to mention Belgium chocolates. Don't forget the waffles and mussles.

Being Canadian, I have to weigh in (good choice of words when talking about food eh) Laughing . I don't find the french fries and vinegar much different or maybe it is because I eat them so fast that I don't taste them!! Two other things that you can't always find south of the border are good Ceasar drinks and Tim Hortons coffee. Ceasar drinks are similar to your Bloody Mary, but it is made with Clamato juice which makes it yummy. And Tim Hortons coffee can often be found in border cities, but I find it doesn't taste as good as drinking it on Canadian soil.

I will have to say that we find the best snack food when we shop in the states. They carry crackers, chips, cookies, etc that we can't find up here and we love trying new things.

And don't forget the good ol' Canadian maple syrup!!

Pretty much like most friendly conversations you start with one subject and end with many others along the way

ok - so back to saving tips. i have a freelance job which doesn't pay much but i put it in an online savings bank - hsbc.com - and i add to it when i get a check from that job and just let it build up and then every so often i transfer it back to my account and call my travel agent and let him/her put another little bit down on my trip. i book like a year in advance and watch the internet constantly to see if the price drops.

I sell stuff on Ebay.I save all our change, last trip, the rolled change paid for the airline tickets, although that is highly unlikely the next time! I even put all money from bottle returns into the vacation acct. The money saved on my grocery bill from coupons, I add the difference into the fund. It's amazing how fast it all adds up.

jackie - i never use change when i'm shopping. at the end of the day all the change goes in a big 5 gallon water jug. of course, last year when they robbed my house it provided them with a convenient carrier to take all my change with them. so i started all over again last february and this february i had about 600 to take with me. the jug money is my casino money.

Hey, thats a good idea! I hadn't thought of starting a little casino fund. We usually don't spend a whole lot, but if I had some extra fun money......

I couldn't imagine spending 600 bucks in the casino. Yes, I am a frugal tightwad!

I'm a little late on this post, but I've got my money jar. I deliberately will give a bill when I buy something, then save the change. I roll it up as soon as I have enough. Also, I put aside 10$ a week, and try not to use it for anything else--(I stick it in an old wallet that I keep in the back of a drawer.)
