Well this is exciting isn't it? Can you imagine CC offering a holiday group cruise? On Cunard no less? I'm loving this and am going to recruit as many people as I can - just to make a point!!

I love this board and the friendly people on it!!

Ok gang, I have some unconfirmed scuttlebutt - I have a friend currently on QM2 and, her waiter told her that it's rumored that QM2 will return to NYC for the holidays in 2009.

Fingers are crossed! I'll book either way, just leaving from NYC is SOOOO much easier for us!!

I have a question, I've avoided Cunard because I didn't think I'd be able to afford it - I know it won't be exactly the same but could one of the TAs give us a rough idea of what pricing is like for the 2008 sailing so we have a ball park idea what 2009 prices might be like? Thanks!!

Ronnie,

Shhhh, I found the 2008 prices on QM2 for December 19 2008 online:

D7 Inside $3320 per person ($6639 per cabin, double occupancy)
C3 Outside $3630 per person ($7259 per cabin, double occupancy)
B4 Balcony $4025 per person ($8049 per cabin, double occupancy)
B1 Balcony $4509 per person ($9019 per cabin, double occupancy)
A3 Balcony $4775 per person ($9550 per cabin, double occupancy)
AA Balcony $6112 per person ($12,224 per cabin, double occupancy)
P2 Junior Suite $6917 per person ($13,834 per cabin, double occupancy)
Q7 Suite $11,757 per person ($23,514 per cabin, double occupancy)

And according to the website:

*Rates are based on two people in a cabin and include port fees but not include government taxes, unless otherwise noted.

Hopefully this gives you an idea, considering it's Cunard, during the holidays, AND a two week cruise, it's really not bad.

Just to give a comparison to the "mainstream" here's the pricing for our Cruise Freek Group Cruise on Grand Princess for December 19, 2008 for two weeks:

PRICING:

Cat. JJ- Inside-- $2020.12 per person
Cat. FF- Obstructed Oceanview-- $2380.12 per person
Cat. EE- Unobstructed Oceanview-- $2630.12 per person
Cat. BC- Balcony-- $2828.12 per person
Cat. AB- Mini Suite-- $3430.12 per person

Prices include all port charges, taxes and government fees.

Group Amenities:
$50.00 per person Onboard Credit
Bottle of wine per cabin

Additional categories may be available. Please contact Bob at Worldview Travel for prices and availability.

Payment Terms:
$600.00 per person deposit due at time of booking
Final Payment will be due by Sept. 20, 2008

How To Book:

Please contact Bob at Worldview Travel and Cruises: 800-869-0674

or

Prices are a bit steep but when you factor it is a two week sailing, on Cunard... It's really a pretty good value. I'm curious what type of discount is offered on groups vs individual reservations with Cunard. The reason I bring it up is it might be a good advertising when Cruise Freek takes this live for the offering. In other words something like...

Save 20% by booking with our group...

Just a thought, sorry that's my marketing skills coming through Rolling Eyes

The typical group discount on Cunard is 5% but then you also usually have amenities like extra onboard credit, wine etc... depending on how generous Cunard is on the particular sailing. The nice thing is, if at the time of booking there is a lower rate available through a promotion you can usually book that and then get pulled into the group to cash in on the amenities.

Strange isn't it? I've lurked over on CC on the Cunard threads and I think there might be a few over that might jump ship, so to speak, and join us but, there is no way to let them know we have this group forming. Their loss I guess...

Anyhow, the reason I logged in today was that I also have UNCONFIRMED information that Queen Mary 2 will return to New York for the holiday sailing in 2009. Naturally this is all rumor but, as someone had posted earlier it seems to be the trend to alternate between NY and FLL for the holidays and since '08 is FLL, it makes perfect sense that '09 will be NYC.

Personally, I'm hoping it's NYC. Haven't been to NYC in a long time and never during Christmas, I'd love to be able to stay in Manhattan a few days prior to leaving on the cruise.

Let's keep up the good work and try to recruit others to go on this sailing with us!! I want to kick some serious you-know-what and show LS and CC how it's done!!

It is my deepest hope that Cunard does bring QM2 or QV to NYC for the holidays. I don't want to go back on RCCL on EOS as there is a bunch of loyalist there from CC who are the most obnoxious group of people I've come across on the message boards and I'd very much like to avoid them. In addition, we are more than ready to "move up" to a more refined cruise experience and Cunard fits the bill.

The group discounts and amenities should be enough to attract others into the group, especially once promotions for this sailing really kick into high gear. I have no doubts we'll fill the group space.

Joe I have a strong feeling I know the group of people to whom you are referring. If they use the term OMG over and over and over again, then I know EXACTLY the group of people and couldn't agree with you more - i've been lurking over on CC in Roll Call, I don't want to let on we're on the same sailing. Don't want to meet them and don't plan on attending Meet and Mingle because of them!!

For those who have sailed on Cunard during the holidays, is it safe to assume Christmas and New Year's Eve will be formal nights? And how "over the top" to people go out for New Year's Eve?
