Since we passed on a World Cruise in 2009 Shocked , I think I can talk my better half into Christmas HolidayTree and also the Queen Elizabeth inaugural in 2010 Party

Hi everyone,

It's been a while since I signed on here. I'm Janice, I was a travel agent a lifetime ago (7 years now since then), and, I when I saw this post, I had to jump in to show my support!!

I'm a former CC poster and every time I tried to organize a CC cruise be it on Cunard or any other cruise line, LS shot me down because I was a former TA. Ms. Critic didn't even dignify my requests with a response!! It didn't matter that I was no longer active as a travel agent and, trying to get that bunch of fuddy duddies over on CC to form a CC Cunard group was next to impossible.

All I can say is that I AM IMPRESSED!! Not only are you guys organizing one but, from the looks of it, several Cunard group cruises.

Needless to say, YES WE ARE VERY INTERESTED!!
Especially if the 2009 holiday cruise is out of NYC!! We're just outside of Philly so it's a quick ride up the NJ Turnpike to get over to Brooklyn.

I am thrilled this board is taking off and, I am going to spread the word to my former clients, many of whom post over on CC.

It's about time! Wink

I know! How cool is this!?!? You have another voted as very interested - and we usually book two to three cabins (depending on how many relatives are joining us)!!

Ok, I've never been a part of a group cruise. What exactly is entailed? For example, would we be tablemates? It sounds interesting but, I'd like to know what this is about before making any promises.

Cunard Cruiser, thanks for sharing that story, I got a big laugh out of it!

Scorpione, there are several benefits to booking with a group:

Usually, extra amenities like shipboard credit or wine are given

Often, there is preferred pricing

You have the option of dining all together or on your own, attending special get togethers etc...

It is easy to organize group shore excursions customized to the group.

The best part though is the comaraderie shared with people you have been getting to know here and then meeting them in person.

Have I forgotten anything?

Cunard Cruiser - OMG - what a story!! You had me laughing because I could just picture the whole thing taking place.

As far as group cruises - they can be a lot fun whether it's a group of family and friends or groups like this one where we all have the same passion for a certain itinerary or cruise ship. There is nothing to fear about booking a group cruise, and, Host Nina can correct me if I'm wrong but, all activities are voluntary - no one is going to come to your cabin and force you to join in. Same thing with dinner, if you'd like to be seated with Cruise Freek friends then just have your reservations crossed referenced, however, if you like your own table, that's ok too!! The other bonus, (especially the way the cruise lines are cracking down on rebating and discounting), is that groups usually get better pricing - by 2009 this might be the only way to get anything off the list price!

I was so happy to see this thread! Chadd's Ford Traveler is right, they are a bunch of fuddy duddies over on CC and you'll rarely see a Cunard group there, and, during the holidays?! Forget it!! Let's just say we won't have any competition over there!!

Now, Host Nina, here are my questions
: (1) Will the assigned TA escort the group? (2) I know prices and itineraries won't be out until April or May, I'm hoping secretly it will be March but I think that's wishful thinking - do they usually release the group pricing first or with the the individual reservations (can you tell I'm anxious to book? LOL) (3) The "free" or "earned" berths, will they be split to lower the cost for everyone else (I don't even know if you can do that anymore) or does the TA get them so he or she can escort the group - it doesn't matter to me. I was just going to make a suggestion that maybe we do a lottery or something for the cabins among those who booked. No big deal, it's just a passing thought. (4) Will we be able to mix and match cabins, as you know, unlike other lines, Cunard mini-suite and suite (also known as Grill) passengers have their own dining rooms. So if I want to book an inside, Cunard Cruiser wants a Queen's Grill Suite (say a Q5), and maybe Giovani wants a Princess Grill Mini-Suite (maybe a P2) - is that going to be a problem? In other words, would we all need to be the same dining category? (5) How is insurance handled? I know, for example, with Royal Caribbean they won't issue insurance with groups and it has to be done independently. Does Cunard have the same policy for groups?

Well, I think that's about it. I want to give others a chance to voice opinions and ask questions but, I thought this would get the ball rolling. This is very exciting!

Loves 2 Cruise

The only required activity when joining a group is having a good time Smile Other activities may be highly encouraged like the initial meet & greet and consuming a martini (shaken not stirred of course!) drunken

To answer your other questions:
1. I do believe that in most cases the assigned TA will escort the group unless they are unable to and in which case someone else within the group will be assigned the duty of Group Leader.

2.Usually, group space is released at the same time individual space is and can be booked immediatly. (recommended to do so!)

3. The "free" berth allocation will depend on the particular agent handling the group and the group policies. It may go to cover part of their cost of sailing or be split among the group depending on the situation. In the case of a very large group it may work for the first "free" to go to the agent/group leader to help cover costs and any additionals to be split among the rest or to cover the cost of any extra onboard functions. A lottery would be a fun idea though!

4. A group can consist of any combination of different grades and is not a problem formation wise. The only problem is dining together. Usually, if a QG or PG wants to dine in Britannia Restaurant they can do so but not the other way around. This is where groups on Cunard get tricky (who wants to give up dining in the QG!?) One of the best solutions is to cross reference for dining everyone within their own Grill (if they so chose) for most meals but then, if the entire group wishes to dine together, schedule a meal or two in Todd English or one of the King's Court Restuarants. There are also breakfast and lunch group dining options. (Dart competition after lunch in Sir Samuels anyone?) Scheduling this would be one of the many functions an attending TA/GL would take care of.

5. Cunard has one of the best and most flexible group programs in the industry. Each individual may chose their personal travel components beyond the stateroom including air, transfers, insurance and pre-post packages etc independently. Either all with Cunard or just parts. I usually recommend third party insurance through a reputable company such as TravelGuard if you are going to be booking your own air, hotel etc. as Cunard's policies only cover what is booked through them.

Hope this answers everything!

Hi everyone, I've been following the Ajani blog about RCCL Genesis and, when he mentioned you were forming a 2009 Holiday cruise on Cunard, I had to sign up to join!

I'm a long time CC lurker and over the past two or three years, I have seen it go from a fairly friendly board to one that is getting down right nasty. I love how polite and friendly this board is so far and, I love the fact that you're organizing groups on Cunard.

Anyhow, I'm rambling here. Yes, we'd be absolutely interested. Especially if it's out of NYC, we're in Princeton NJ so no flying is a huge plus for us!!

Welcome to all the new faces Welcome It's been a while since I visited here and I'm certainly thrilled to see the membership has grown and that we have new people interested in the HolidayTree menorah Kwanzaa HappyNewYear2 holidays for 2009!

Looking forward to booking and making this official!

If anyone wants to see what QM2 looks like during the holidays the ADMIN posted some photos for me, I agreed in turn, to allow her to use them when she makes the Christmas cruise website for 2009 (assuming we'll be booking the QM2 that is Very Happy)

I have a question, I've avoided Cunard because I didn't think I'd be able to afford it - I know it won't be exactly the same but could one of the TAs give us a rough idea of what pricing is like for the 2008 sailing so we have a ball park idea what 2009 prices might be like? Thanks!!

Ronnie,

Shhhh, I found the 2008 prices on QM2 for December 19 2008 online:

D7 Inside $3320 per person ($6639 per cabin, double occupancy)
C3 Outside $3630 per person ($7259 per cabin, double occupancy)
B4 Balcony $4025 per person ($8049 per cabin, double occupancy)
B1 Balcony $4509 per person ($9019 per cabin, double occupancy)
A3 Balcony $4775 per person ($9550 per cabin, double occupancy)
AA Balcony $6112 per person ($12,224 per cabin, double occupancy)
P2 Junior Suite $6917 per person ($13,834 per cabin, double occupancy)
Q7 Suite $11,757 per person ($23,514 per cabin, double occupancy)

And according to the website:

*Rates are based on two people in a cabin and include port fees but not include government taxes, unless otherwise noted.

Hopefully this gives you an idea, considering it's Cunard, during the holidays, AND a two week cruise, it's really not bad.

Just to give a comparison to the "mainstream" here's the pricing for our Cruise Freek Group Cruise on Grand Princess for December 19, 2008 for two weeks:

PRICING:

Cat. JJ- Inside-- $2020.12 per person
Cat. FF- Obstructed Oceanview-- $2380.12 per person
Cat. EE- Unobstructed Oceanview-- $2630.12 per person
Cat. BC- Balcony-- $2828.12 per person
Cat. AB- Mini Suite-- $3430.12 per person

Prices include all port charges, taxes and government fees.

Group Amenities:
$50.00 per person Onboard Credit
Bottle of wine per cabin

Additional categories may be available. Please contact Bob at Worldview Travel for prices and availability.

Payment Terms:
$600.00 per person deposit due at time of booking
Final Payment will be due by Sept. 20, 2008
