When you take a cruise what is the one element that is the thing you most look forward to ? I know many of you will want to list dozens of things but if you had to pick the top of the list what would it be ?

For me it is the Dancing.

I can sit for hours and just stare at the passing sea. Oh and the mojitos. And best of all no work!

Sailaway time, by far. I look forward to it the most because it means the planning and worrying are all behind me and the start of a wonderful vacation is finally here. It's just such a special, festive time - I enjoy it no matter what ship I am on or where I am headed.

My absolute MOST favorite part of cruising:

Room service coffee & breakfast on the balcony - while watching (and taking 1000s of photographs of) the sunrise.
This is the most perfect time for me.

TOny - don't you like to get away from work, too?

I can honestly say that I love my job...but a rainy day at sea on my balcony would win, hands down! lol

No Pam , I don't cruise to get away from my job ,I am not stressed in my job , I am basically relaxed all the time Sleep so I don't cruise to relax, but just for the pure pleasure of the experience and dancing is at the top of the list.

ok - dumb question here.
What is a 'Taxi Dancer' ??

I am very relaxed at work as well - and can also sometimes see those Zzzz! LOL
But the thing I like about Balcony mornings is that it is something I cannot find a equilivant replacement for in my day to day life.

I think I would like to have a job that requires travel... ahh...
My DH does travel quite a bit with work..and he doesn't really enjoy it.

Not all ships have them, Cunard might, they are people who sort of work for the ship and are available to dance with unaccompanied ladies , (Taxi dancers are almost always men ).
I was read an article in a newspaper about them. They are not full time employees of the ship rather they get a very reduced rate for their crusie and to offset that they have to be available in the evenings on the dancefloor.
There are also requirements such as they have to :-
1) be able to dance many styles well.
2) be a good conversationalist
3) have the morals of a boyscout
4) are not allowed to favour any particular passenger.

For a classic example of a taxi dancer, I highly recommend renting the movie: Out to Sea with Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau. They are hired to be taxi dancers on a cruise ship, it's a fun light hearted comedy.

Well, that certainly sounds like a fun 'job' for a man who loves to dance!

Maybe you could do it a few times a year, Tony!
Would be cheap vacations!

Thanks, Tina...that looks like a cute movie!
