Welcome to the wonderful world of cruising, I'm sure you'll become addicted like so many of us have to this relaxing form of vacation. I'd recommend the Caribbean for your first cruise - and I'm partial to the Southern Caribbean which would mean you would need to fly to Puerto Rico. For some that's too long of a flight and if that's the case, Western Caribbean is the next best in my opinion. I like the Southern and Western itineraries since they tend to be the most port intensive and offer the most interesting islands. As far as selecting a cruise line - they are as diverse as personalities. Check out all the boards, read the cruise line websites and brochures and you'll figure out which one will "fit" your needs and tastes the best.

There are so many factors in determining the what cruise line to choose. The best advice I can give you is to contact a travel agent, there are many good ones on this board and talk to them about what you're looking for in a cruise. i.e. Do you like or dislike dressing up, will you be traveling with children, and how much do you want to spend. And I agree 100% with Ed that the caribbean is perfect for a first cruise,.

You've received good advice above. I would just point out that another section of the Forum has a list of all the official travel agents for Cruise Freek Forum. I'm sure that I speak for all of us in saying that any of us would be happy to talk to you about what your interests are, what you would like to do on a cruise, who you are traveling with, and lots of other factors to help you decide which of the many cruise lines, ships, and itineraries would be best for you.

For your convenience, here is a link to that directory:

Travel Agent Directory

A couple of notes about that directory. First Bob DeAgazio is not with Balboa travel anymore and has not been heard from in a long time. Second, Nina Van Horn just had a baby and may be a bit hard to reach for a while. You can read all about her and the baby in many places on these boards.

I would like to add that, I think for a first time cruiser, it might be a good idea to take a short 3 or 4 day cruise, to try it out, and see how you like it.

We had a bad experience on Carnival, but then tried a 4 day Royal Caribbean, and got hooked and now we are seriously addicted! Laughing

ANY CRUISE I'M ON!

Welcome to cruising! You absolutely will have the time of your life on a cruise!

Being from North Dakota, the best time to cruise is winter. Nothing like escaping this frozen hell-hole in February!

Seriously...ndmom is my niece.
That's why she needs to cruise with me!

Trust me...if you hang out here long enough....EVERYONE will talk you into the cruise experience of your life!

Here are two great options...
Jump on the EMERALD PRINCESS with us in 87 more days!
Holidays got you down?....how about the Queen Mary 2 at Christmas 2009!

People on this forum are great...and will help you in every step of the way...me included.

We live so close together...yet we seldom see each other! What a great way to re-connect...over the open ocean. Think about it.

Welcome to Cruise Freeks

Hi everyone,
My parents took us on cruises, back when they were oceanliners (i.e. no flowriders, rockclimbing walls, video arcades). Those are some of the absolute best memories I have of family vacations. I'm sure the kids would be thrilled to experience a cruise and all of the ship's attractions. For the money, I think cruises can be an economical way for a family's vacation.

If you want to go for food, definitely Celebrity. Holand America is also good but the passengers are a little bit older. I like Holland because the passengers are a little relax and calm.

i belong to an fraternal organization that runs a cruise at least once a year. i had never cruised but i felt obligated to go on the one in 2000 that they were running. i couldn't afford it so i was stymied as to what to do. so one night when my husband was sleeping i got on ebay and looked around to see what was selling. i saw these knives that my husband collected were fetching really good money. so i went in the attic and sold them all. he was none too happy with me. he went on the cruise very unwillingly and knew he wouldn't like some stodgy cruise for old people. well now i couldn't get him on anything else and he is in a TA office every couple months scouting books for where he wants to go next time.

cruises are the best, especially here in minnesota we usually go in feb. over my birthday and valentines day so that takes care of 2 major holidays, we have never had a bad day when we cruise (knock on deck boards)
the first one is the ultimate, the second one is great but then you start comparing and thats how you will find which cruise lines you like best, enjoy cruising we love it.

Royal Caribbean Line has always been kids friendly. If you use their new Freedom Class ships (Liberty or Freedom of the Seas), the activities for kids are endless. Smile
