Thanks Dave! I'm sure we'll have lots of questions.. NYC is kind of overwhelming when it comes to figuring out where to stay and what to try to cram in. I think we are flying into LGA and will probably stay right there (prices seem reasonable). Do you think this will be ok? We plan on one night beforehand and then a taxi to the port and 2-3 nights afterwards (and we'll probably stay somewhere closer to Manhattan).

Ok, if you'd like to stay in Queens (that's where LGA is located) - I'd recommend keeping close to the airport. You have some good hotels that aren't nearly as pricey as those in Manhattan. However, just be aware the easiest and cheapest away into Manhattan is going to be by bus which is $2 per fare.

This link will provide you with information about your public transportation options:
http://www.mta.info/nyct/service/airport.htm

Another option I want to throw at you - have you considered Priceline.com? You could probably get a hotel in Manhattan for the same cost - just thought!

Thanks for the link to the MTA. We were looking at the Holiday Inn @ LGA, but I'm not sure Queens is where we are wanting to be (haha, my only knowledge of that area is what they portrayed on Coming To America!).

I'm checking into Priceline, but where would the best area be? They list soo many of them and I don't know what would be good as far as neighborhood, cost to get to the pier, and public transportation. Any help would be more than appreciated!!

The areas I'm considering are: Times Square, Empire State Building, Central Park South, and Downtown/Soho/Financial Dist (because its pretty close to the cruise terminal). Are any of these better than the other?

The areas I recommend are:

Central Park South
Empire State Building
Midtown East
Midtown West
Times Square-Theater Dist

That will give you the best areas for the things you wish to do and these are all safe areas.

I'm really considering The Westin NY Times Square... its close to a lot of things and the price is considerably cheaper than what I've found for lesser hotels.

Thank you so much for your help!!

Westin Times Square is a good choice! Might I recommend the following link for information for Times Square: http://www.timessquarenyc.org/

Oh and for sightseeing - this is one of your very best values:

http://www.coachusa.com/newyorksightseeing/

You can hop and off the bus at 50 locations and, it's a narrated tour of the city. It saves wear and tear on your feet and you'll get to see all the sites.

Yes, this sailing is out of the Brooklyn Terminal!

Also, don't forget, I may be able to beat priceline and those other big internet companies. Just let me know what you find and I'll try to beat it!!! If I can help you save a few $$$, I'd like to help!! Very Happy

This is our first time and we had previously been booked in the Independence OTS for 12/09.. and had everything planned out. Since I'm the "TA" at my house...its been a little overwhelming changing all this! Oh well, this is what I love doing best!!

Jeanie - thanks for letting us know that. I have to talk to DH about hotels, but I'd be more than happy to see if you can get us a good rate! Should I email you about the room upgrade (I'm a little confused about what I would need to pay now if I want to upgrade now as opposed to waiting until late January)?

Hi Everyone,

Just thought I'd jump on to let you know the upgrade costs are as follows:

Category I - $80 for 2 people or $40 per person difference

Category F - $300 difference for 2 people or $150 per person

Category BD - $1000 difference for 2 people or $500 per person

Category BC - $1120 difference for 2 people or $560 per person

Category BB - $1240 difference for 2 people or $620 per person

Category BA - $1360 difference for 2 people or $680 per person

Category AC - $1600 difference for 2 people or $800 per person

Category AB - $1800 difference for 2 people or $900 per person

If you or someone traveling with you wants to book or upgrade now then the full deposit is required. Princess changed their depositing to 20% of the cruise fare earlier this year, therefore, the deposit due at this time - so let's take an example - say you'd like to upgrade to Category F - oceanview. The deposit required would be $718

Since the upgrade is only $300 for an oceanview cabin - there is a $418 difference between the deposit and the upgrade price, and, this will be either rebated in cash in late January, 2009 OR it can be applied as
on-board credit for the sailing.

If anyone gets confused let me know and I will try to explain it a differently! You can email me at Trinaldi13@aol.com or admin@cruisefreakforums.com

I should also add this upgrade deal only applies to those who booked during our Halloween 2010 promotion. This way we'll keep everyone from getting confused.

Welcome board everyone! And, yes, I'm already booked on this sailing!

Tina

Thanks Tina! Thats the question I had.. I didn't realize they changed to 20%. When we upgrade, can we ask for a specific room?

The total deposit due right away is $418. That deposit is refundable in January!

The $300 difference would not be due until June 4, 2009.
