I hope this makes sense. Crystal is formal but, not stiff and that's what I love about them most! The big difference will be the dress codes, Crystal, like Cunard is more formal but, in most other ways it's like the mainstream lines. Great shows, excellent food - better than Cunard in my opinion.

As far as itinerary, it should remain pretty close - the nice thing is - I'm assuming it will be Serenity again, the ship is just 68,000 tons so we can get to smaller islands that the big ships can't access Very Happy

Im going on Cunard for the 1st time in July.............from what I gather, dress is pretty much formal almost 24/7........and you say Crystal is more formal??

What kind of dress code should I expect???

Cunard and Crystal are very similar with their dress codes. During the day, casual is acceptable but, at night-time, you'll see the fancy gowns, the jewels, etc but, not to fret, the key is to stay in the dress code for the entire evening.

Oh,I can do that......not a problem..

Daytime casual...is that like Cunard too?? I think of country club attire....or is more relaxed ok??

I'm so glad I'll be able to wear my gowns aboard Crystal, we like more formal ships. That is one of the many things I love about Cunard.
As for the daytime dress aboard Cunard it is casual. I do believe a crossing maybe a little more dressy during the day. PH8, will you be aboard The QM2?

Hi all, I've been lurking hoping this thread would eventually pick up. I'm so happy that this group is forming, those duds over on CC never want to form a group on Crystal. I've sailed both Crystal Symphony and Crystal Harmony three times each and, have cruised Crystal during the holidays so I'm more than happy to help newbies to Crystal feel comfortable from the minute you board. 534 You sound like you're pretty experienced with Cunard, you're going to find very similar experiences on Crystal. The staff bends over backwards and then some!
Looks like we both will be on the the same 2 cruises.........
Yes, we will & for the same reasons! We both got lucky in the drawings. I'm looking forward to our Cunard sailing. Have never sailed from NY, nor have we done the Canadian itenerary. New ship, new ports...all good!

I love the ports listed on this thread as a possible itenerary for the 2011 sailing. Haven't been to very many of those islands either...new ship, new ports...all good. I'll worry about the dress code & shopping for it later. Just ready to be excited about the prospects.

So this is your first Crystal sailing for most of you? I know you're going to enjoy it! Do any of you have questions about cabins or other things about the ships?

Well this is exciting, I see we'll be adding four more Cruise Freeks to the group! Please feel free to join in and ask questions, we have a very nice group of people here. We haven't been overly active since this sailing is so far into the future but, we do welcome everyone so please don't be shy about posting!

To the best of my knowledge, both Crystal ships only offer triple occupancy.

I was looking for that too. There are some outsides, insides, and full suites that offer quad occupancy.

Would a 16 year old boy be bored on a 2 week xmas sailing? I'm still debating what to do here. It seems a lot more sophisticated than what my son is use to. He loved disney and carnival.

Helen, where did you find quads? I only see references to triple berths

Well, my son Robert will be with me on this sailing and he'll be 15 by then, so he can at least have a buddy on board. Of course my wife, Jean, and at least one daughter will be on board too. Amanda will be 19 by then (a little old for your son!) and my other other daughter, Kari, will be 22 by then. Who knows at this point where she will be at that time?

It turns out that I have been very lucky and will be on both the 2009 Baltic Crystal cruise and the Christmas 2011 Crystal cruise. I'll also be joining the Cruise Freeks for the QM2 July 4th cruise in 2009 and the Oasis Halloween cruise in 2010. So, even if I am not the official TA for any of those cruises, you'll have another board escort to help out if needed.

Steve,

My then 18 yr old son is deciding if he will want to go..it will be his first year in college. The formal nights are scaring them a little. DO you know if they have just triple cabins or quads also? We are also doing the EOS. My younger kids will enjoy the 3-7 yr old group

Well, maybe Amanda won't be too old.....
She'll be in her second year of college by then.

Kari SHOULD be out of college by then. We'll see...

All three of my kids have been on one cruise, and they liked the formal night, even my son. For kids it is not as big a deal. A decent suit is fine.

As far as I know, there are no quads on either the Symphony or the Serenity. At least I have never been able to make a booking for 4, and there are no rooms on the deckplans that show room for 4.

Well hi everyone, I am one of the new winners and can't say how thrilled I am. I lived in Boca Raton for 13 years, so I have some knowledge of the Miami area and don't know enough about Crystal to even have questions. I'm still in shock to be honest.

This will be a dream come true. I can't believe Tina is giving away these cruises but I thank her from the bottom of my heart.

Hi everyone,
I just got notified by other friends, that I won a cabin for this holiday sailing. To say I was thrilled was an understatement. I also think it is wonderful that there are so many people who have previously sailed with Crystal to help out. For those of you who are seasoned Crystal cruisers, what is your favorite onboard activity besides of course meeting new friends? It also appears that on the deck plans that some of the cabins have chairs, and some have sofas. Do you have any preference for cabins in the same category, whether it has a chair or sofa? I want to thank Ms. Rinaldi, and everyone on the boards for being so very welcoming. Christmas came early this year, and boy what a year it has been!
I look forward to learning from all of you in the coming three years.

Welcome Welcome Everyone!!

My personal favorite on-board activities:

The enrichment programs such as calligraphy classes, the Yamaha's Passport To Music program (even if you haven't played a note before stepping on-board, you'll learn to play piano with these sessions), the book club can be fun (depending on the selected reading), Tai Chi classes but, my absolute favorite? The cooking workshops and classes.

As far as categories, I usually book category B or category A these are both balcony cabins. I've booked category AA (only available on Serenity) a few times but, in all honesty, I didn't the few extra services were worth the additional money. The cabin is pretty much identical to category B and category A cabins.

So glad we have a nice friendly group going! I know a few people have tried to organize group cruises on the upscale lines like Crystal on the other boards without much success. So, I'm thrilled to see it happening on here!

My kids will be joining us on this sailing as well. They will be 23, 20, 15 & 13. The oldest will come if he is out of the Marines by then, otherwise, my mom will go. (She may go anyway as a third person in the room with our girls). Our then to be 15 year old is a boy, so they might hang together.

I want them all to have this experience. It isn't something that I would be able to provide for them without the generosity of Cruise Freeks. Not in a rush to have them grow up or anything, just want them to see & do things I could only dream about as a child/youth. Convince your ds to go & enjoy the new experience.
