| Well, we got home today and checked things out. We have tree limbs everywhere. The tree in the back snapped but the branch fell in the yard on the fence. It didn’t bend it. We have water, gas, phone and lights, so we are good in that respect. Freeport has a curfew from 7 pm, to 7am until further notice. Quintana beach suffered a lot of damage and Surfside is now a beach instead of an island. It flooded quite a bit and many homes were damaged. Galveston was very hard hit.
As for us, the roof partially collapsed in the front bedroom. Insulation everywhere and a wet carpet. John is still trying to do a makeshift fix for tonight. The flagpole snapped in half also. The worst thing was that we packed tons on stuff including family photos. The tarp didn’t hold (developed a hole) and the large containers that held those items, filled up with water. I lost tons of family photos as did John.
We are looking at a lot of work and expense to get this fixed right but the house is still standing. I guess that is the only good part. We are exhausted and unfortunately will spend the next several days trying to get things fixed and cleaned up.
Will update if anything changes. _________________

| Wow...that sux. We lived through a natural disaster...so I kinda know what you are going through. Our house was wrecked for a long while too. Good luck, and try to hold your spirit high. You will recover in time. One thing I learned...never hold all your mementos in one location. In this age of digital pictures and such...make copies of EVERY PICTURE, and put them on CD and store in another location. (ie..let a family member keep them for you in an alternate location) You just never know when a natural disaster, fire, robbery will occur. Just a thought. _________________ Pete

| we had all the photos with us in a large Rubbermaid type 5 gallon container with a lid. We didn't buy the tonnau cover for the bed of the truck yet so we used a tarp (bought brand new) but it leaked and filled the bucket with water. If the tarp held, we wouldn't have lost all those photos.
We got a bid on our roof. Tomorrow he is coming to do a serious patch job and replace the tiles blown off. At least that will keep us dry until he can do the full job. It was a very reasonable quote so in a few weeks or at least within a couple of months, we will hopefully have a new roof. He did the roof on our garage and not one tile came loose or fell off, so we know he does good work. Our quote is for 2600.00 to do the whole roof including adding 2 foot overhang all around and adding an area that will make the roof equal on the front door area. It's kind of off set right now.
Right now, I just glad we actually had a home to come to. Now we are going to fix it up to get ready to sell. Had enough of the coast and are ready to go. We have wanted to move for years, so with this, we are preparing our house to put on the market and get out............hopefully we can do all this within 2 years. John retires in two years so that is our goal for leaving.
We will have an "overkill" on our insurance, but with a house that is already paid for, it will really help if something happens. Also, with a paid off house, it makes it easy to sell. Whatever we can get (within reason), we will take and leave the state of Texas.
Right now, we are focusing on the Great Smokey Mountains area. No particular place, but way off coast! _________________
