I was wondering if anyone besides me has ever considered booking a cruise on Windstar Cruise Lines? http://www.windstarcruises.com/cruises-home.asp

And this is just a general proposal - I have no date or itinerary in mind. All I'm trying to do is see if there is interest in the idea.

I'll admit, I've been curious about them. I think going around the Greek Island might be a nice way to try them out but, for a shorter cruise 7 days or less.

I've often ordered Windstar brochures and to be honest, yes, it does have me curious as well. If it was a shorter, trial cruise of 7 days or less, then more than likely I'd be willing to try them.

I'm with everyone else on this Patrick, if we could do a short "experimental" sailing, then I'm in. What I don't understand are the vast differences in the reviews it receives - some bash it to kingdom come and other rave about it. So, yes, I'm curious as well - I like the concept, I understand the staterooms are much smaller, but, if we don't try it, we'll never know, right? So, yes - sometime in the future I'd be interested.

You have perked my interest. I have sailed on Windstar and eventhough they have been around for many years the attraction is the "sailing ship". Their computerized sailes are facinating. The computer knows or senses the wind and adjusts the sails before we on board even feel the breeze. To be out at night undersail with no lights but the stars and moon is a different actually very romantic feeling! Quiet no engine noise, no outside lights to obstruct those stars!. I sailed out of Barbadoes on her and the Caribbean was at the time calm and very little wind, she did run by engine when the wind isn't strong.

It is strange but I don't remember the rooms at all, I think we had a porthole but I'd have to review the brochure. What I remember is the Sports deck that went down on the back and we snorkeled, actually did a lap swimming around the boat and lots of water sports. My husband went diving. All the equipment is on board. There was one time dining with anyone, move around with friends you have met on board. But I definately would not hesitate to go on her again.

It was what I call "country club casual" dressing for dinner. They tend to sail in protected waters as well. I go on and on when I am excited about something... can you tell. They are not an all inclusive sailing boat meaning your drinks are not included like other smaller vessels. There is now competition out there for Windstar and they are forced to keep up their ships. It isn't as luxurious as yachts like SeaDream Yacht club or others but again it is the "Sails" that are the attraction. time I know this is to long. It is time to stop.

I might be interested if we could make this a diving theme sailing...

Thanks for the input Lona Lee, overall, you sound pro Windstar. When was the last time you sailed and, also you mentioned competition - in your opinion, if we do form a luxury, small ship group, would we better off with a line such as Silversea or Regent? Which are two other lines I'd love to try?

Hi, Hopefull Henry,

I don't consider Windstar like the Silversea and Regent experience at all. I see them quite different actually. The competition I was referring to would be other sailing ships like the Silver Cloud for example. http://www.seacloud.com/ Go into the site and listen to their videos... what do you hear? That is what the experience to me is all about on Windstar and other sailing ships. Just comparing sailing ships would be the fair thing to do. Windstar is the established and been the forrunner in the past and I don't know to many folks that haven't enjoyed her the first time around.

Let me try to explain something that makes some people like or not like one of these smaller sailing ships or Yachts. Some very experienced cruisers tend to not be to open to letting loose and taking a day at a time and letting things happen with changes of their boat schedules, like changing ports and going to new ones because of the wind or it may be nicer somewhere else and the captain just decides to do a different turn. This is part of the sailing idea. OOPS I went on and on again.

Perhaps, my concern is the "ride", is there a lot of motion associated with this type of cruise. I'm not normally prone to seasickness but, rough waters aboard a ship without stablizers might lead to seasickness in my case.

QUEEN B...love your sign. ANYWAY the sailing ships try and stay in protected waters as much as possible I know that Windstar's ability to adjust their sails help but when it will be rough anywhere it isn't good.
