Having spent a year at Gtmo myself, I can tell you that the naval base is not typical of Cuba. It is climatically a desert (very little annual rainfall) due to "mountains" on the east side of Guantanemo blocking rains into the area. I am sure an ironworker would have found it much hotter than myself who had a rather sedentary job! The ports most likely to take the first cruise ships are Havana and Santiago de Cuba. There are a few cruise ships visiting these ports already, just not with US citizens. |

| We think Cuba - and Minnesota - might be the only places that close to the US that we have missed. Yes I am not Pat - I know Minnesota is IN the US. Sorry Pat. Carol _________________ Carol & Gene |

| We would love to do a cruise that included Cuba. Mike lived on the base as a child when his dad was in the Marine Corps. And Mike has always wanted to go back to see it again. Kim and Mike |

| I am leaving for Cayo Santa Maria, Cuba on Saturday for a 7 day All Inclusive resort vacation with friends. Although cruising is my preferred and loved vacation, this opportuntity to go away (without my kids) came up two weeks ago and we jumped on it. Cuba is one of the popular tourist destinations for Canadians. I hear the beaches are gorgeous and the people friendly. Although we will not be going to Havana, I hear it is full of history and great sites. It would be a nice stop for a future cruise. I hope it opened up some day as a new place to cruise. I will share my thoughts and insight into Cuba when I return. |

| We just got back from our vacation at an All Inclusive Resort in Cuba yesterday and I have to say that the beaches are as beautiful as the ones we visited in St. Thomas and St. Maarten. I could definitely see Cuba being a hot cruise destination if allowed. You get to see a difficult culture, beautiful beaches and meet very nice local people who love tourists. Parts of Cuba is very poor and when driving through small villages you are so thankful of what you have back home. We did an amazing Jeep Safari trip through the Cuban countryside that was amazing. This would make a great port excursion. |

Thanks for the update. I have been tempted to visit Cuba on the sly, like many people from the US. It isn't legal for us but not overly difficult to do. |

| The Miami Herald reports that | Quote: | | The U.S. House of Representatives passed a huge spending bill Wednesday that tweaked U.S-Cuba policy, making it easier for Cuban-Americans to get away with illegally traveling to the communist country. |
This may not pass the US Senate and will not change the rules on non-Cuban-American travel. |
