No such thing as a dumb question. Wink Most post offices are selling the passports.

Go to the U.S. Department of State passport page,
http://travel.state.gov/passport/passport_1738.html.

It will have all the information you will need. You can print out your form and then take it to the Post Office. Make sure you call your post office and make an appointment.

You can get all the information you really need at the State Department webpage. As noted above, many Post Offices handle new passport applications, but there are many other locations too.

Just an FYI, the process for children is very involved, BOTH parents must go to the passport office OR you must have a NOTARIZED letter from the absent parent giving permission to the present parent to aquire a passport...reason for not attending cannot be "at work"...needs to be "out of town" or some other serious reason for not being present....parents will need ID as well as all of the birth certificates for the person applying for a passport....read the State Dept info carefully

You will also need 2 passport sized pictures. These can be taken at most local drug stores for $7-10.00 or if you have a good digital camera and software that will print a passport sized photo you can take them at home. You need to have a white background. The picture has to be taken from just below the shoulders to just above the top of the head. You must look straight at the camera with nothing covering your face. You may smile Very Happy It should be clear and without fuzz.

Hope this helps!

If you have a membership at Costco, Sams Club, or BJ's, their photo departments will do Passport photos for you too. Generally about $5.00 per person. It usually takes no more than 15 minutes to get them done.

Time to make your bookings for the 06/20/09 Bermuda cruise and the 10/11/09 Mexican Rivera cruises!

Looks like this one is answered...LOL...

Remember to apply in plenty of time... also, you have to give them your birth certificate...it does get returned to you...but be sure you won't need it for anything else while waiting.
